Louisville Metro’s free 2026 leaf drop-off is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, through Saturday, December 5. The four listed sites are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are closed November 26–28 for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
This is a simple civic service, but the details matter. The free program is for leaves—not a general trash or yard-waste dump—and the container rules can save a family a wasted trip.
2026 dates and hours
- Program dates: November 3–December 5, 2026
- Open: Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Closed: November 26, 27, and 28
Four free drop-off locations
- Public Works Yard — 10500 Lower River Road; enter from Bethany Lane
- East District Operations Center — 595 N. Hubbards Lane
- Shawnee Park Athletic Complex — 230 Southwestern Parkway
- 535 Meriwether Avenue — across from the Solid Waste Office
Families should reopen the official Louisville Metro page before leaving in case weather, operations, or another current notice changes a location or hour.
What the free program accepts
- loose leaves;
- leaves in paper or compostable bags; and
- leaves in reusable containers.
If you use a reusable container, take the container home with you.
What it does not accept
- trash;
- plastic bags; or
- other yard waste.
Louisville Metro separately states that the Waste Reduction Center accepts yard waste for a fee. That is a different route from the seasonal free leaf-only program.
Before you rake everything to the curb
Louisville Public Works advises residents not to blow leaves into the street. Its yard-waste page also encourages leaving grass clippings and leaf mulch on the lawn or using home composting when practical. Households in the Urban Services District generally receive weekly yard-waste collection except during the winter schedule; use Louisville’s address lookup or Recycle Coach to confirm the rule for your own address.
